Google Groups is a service that can be used to send mass email, grant group members permission to Google files, collaborate with colleagues and more. We offer four types of Google Groups:
- Standard group: Non-data driven group. Manually created
- Custom group: Data driven groups based on HR/SIS/Manifest data
- Class group: Data driven group based on course enrollment data
- Advisor group: Data driven groups based on Registrar data
Benefits
- Not owned by an individual UW–Madison Google Workspace account
- Will not be deactivated if the creator leaves UW–Madison
- Invalid or deactivated addresses are automatically removed
- Files can be shared with a group instead of individuals
- Group moderation is available
- Membership can include both UW–Madison (internal) and non-UW–Madison (external) email addresses
- Members can manage their subscription
